Donna Mae Bates, age 80 of Marcellus, Michigan passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Borgess Ascension Hospital.

Donna was born in Three Rivers, Michigan on March 16, 1941, the daughter of Norman A. and Violet R. (Carpenter) McClain.

On July 18, 1958 in Marcellus, Michigan, Donna married Carl Lavon Bates, who survives her in death.

Donna was a cashier, working for over 20 years at the Shell gas station in Marcellus, Michigan.

Donna loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed her time driving and riding in the semi with her husband Carl. Donna loved animals of all kinds, attending flea markets and auctions, and cooking at the Marcellus Fire Department. Donna was also a member of the Cass County Sheriff’s Posse.

Donna is survived by her husband Carl Bates; children DiAnna (Larry) Wagner of Georgia, Dawn (Ted) Brooks, Darla (Dave) Klock, Evelyn (Ernie) Nemeth, John (Jody) Bates, all of Marcellus; siblings Harriet (Fred) DooLittle, Norma (Rod) Charron, Romona (Phil) Czuk, Janet (Larry) Heath, Norman (Dawn Myers) McClain, Robert (Angie) McClain, Richard (Lisa) McClain; 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren.

Donna is preceded in death by her son Danny Bates; parents Norman and Violet McClain.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the Cass County Animal Shelter, 323 M-62, Cassopolis, MI 49031. Online condolences may be left at www.materralstonfuneralhome.com .
