Betty Lou Whitney, age 92 of Kalamazoo, Michigan passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Friendship Village of Kalamazoo.

Betty was born in Athens, Michigan on October 27, 1928 the daughter of Leo Oscar Wood and Minnie E. Vedder, and the fourth of eight children.

On June 28, 1947, in LaGrange, Indiana she married Glenn Kenneth Whitney, who preceded her in death October 2, 2004.

Betty worked in the food service industry, working for many years at Upjohn in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Betty enjoyed books and was a voracious reader. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending her time outdoors, camping, playing golf and boating.

Betty is survived by her children Ken (Mary) Whitney of Marcellus, Douglas (Valerie) Whitney of Joliet, MT; grandchildren Richard (Alisha) Whitney, Savannah Whitney, and Colton Whitney; great-grandchildren; Calvin Moyer, Desi Moyer and Madelynn Whitney; brother David (Kathy) Wood of Battle Creek.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Glenn Kenneth Whitney; parents Leo and Minnie Wood, five sisters and one brother.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held May 15, 2021 at 11am at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park South, 3941 S. Westnedge, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49008. Memorial donations may be directed to the
Hospice of S.W. Michigan, www.hospiceswmi.org/give/ or Friendship Village Employee Appreciation Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.materralstonfuneralhome.com .
